Großglockner Hochalpenstraße: this is one of the most iconic and famous roads in Austria. It connects the states of Salzburg and Carinthia and passes through the High Tauern National Park and offers spectacular views of the Großglockner, Austria's highest peak. The road includes many sharp turns and spectacular views.
The road starts in the municipality of Fusch an der Großglocknerstrasse, which is 805 metres above sea level, and ends in the municipality of Heiligenbluth, which is 1,301 metres above sea level. The highest point of the route is the Hochtor Pass, which is 2504 metres above sea level. The maximum gradient of the road is 10.2%. The average gradient of the northern slope is 7.1 per cent and the southern slope is 8.6 per cent.
This road leads to the heart of the Emperor Franz Joseph and offers panoramic views of the Pasterze Glacier and the majestic Großglockner Mountain. A toll is charged for travelling on this road.
Silvretta Hochalpenstraße (Silvretta Hochalpenstraße): Located in the Montafon Valley, this road is 22.3 kilometres long and leads through the Silvretta Alps. It is known for its stunning mountain scenery, high alpine water bodies and the Bilerhöhe Pass.
The road is only open in the warm season, usually from May and depending on the weather until late autumn, and is subject to a toll for all categories of vehicles.
